Never change a running system

if there is no good reason ! I know it can be tempting to try and see what happens. “It must be better” … Well, it can be.

But sometimes a system upgrade or a simple firmware update can really improve your system. Since more than a year I was kind of angry that my NAS did not work together with Apple’s TimeMachine. A recently announced Firmware update was supposed to fix this. For me a good reason to break “the rule” and go for it.

As we are talking about important data, there are a few things to take into account: First of all, make sure you have a valid backup of the data that are on the drive you work on. Second, keep system data like IP-address and access data at hand.

Sometimes, a simple little intervention can improve your system dramatically.
