“The FUJIFILM Neopan 100 Acros is a medium speed, ultra-high-image quality black-and-white negative film and features the world’s highest standard in grain quality among ISO 100 films.”
As a huge fan of the film simulations available in the FUJIFILM X-series cameras, the addition of the Neopan Acros (right now only available in the X-PRO2) made my heart jump.
It comes with a very nicely balanced tonality, renders fine structures with high precision and has the beautiful grain quality as known from the good old film days. A nice feature of the “Acros 2.0” is the possibility to add grain in two steps (“weak” and “strong”). As already before Yellow, Red and Green filers can be applied.
In order to go even further in fine tuning the final image, “curve like” adjustments as in Photoshop are easily done using the “shadow” and “highlight” in-cameras adjustments (both in steps from -2, -1, 0 to +1, +2). Using the spot metering method (on the bright or dark parts of the image and applying exposure correction in order to achieve bright white with details (“+”) or really dark shadows with details (“-“)) one can create stunning high-contrast images without even launching Photoshop at all.
Let these images speak for themselves
I recommend also reading this interesting article on fujifilm-x.com which explains why this film simulation will not be available via firmware upgrade for older camera models!
